Questions and Answers
Where would we start?
I would begin with you, the parent or guardian, since you know your child best. I would also prefer to contact your child's teacher(s) so that I could obtain more information about him or her. From here I would put together a profile so that I know exactly what skills we need to work on in order to bring about the most success.
What kinds of methods would you use?
It depends on the student. Each student has specific strengths and needs which much be addressed. Some students need a multi-modal approach, some require a more traditional method. I will create a format that I feel is best for the student based on the input from the parent(s) and the teacher.
What results should I expect to see?
Every student is different. I would not promise anything I can't deliver, but I will promise to create the most effective learning environment in the time given. Student success is not just measured in how much is memorized or passing a test. Success is realized when a student is more self-confident, invested in his or her learning, and has the support he or she needs to continue to see success.
What should I expect with guitar lessons?
I love playing my guitar and bass, writing songs with my students, performing for my school or with my band across the state. I've been doing so for over a decade. I don't claim to be a guitar virtuoso by any stretch of the imagination, but I do understand what students should know when it comes to the most important elements of learning the guitar. I will teach the fundamentals such as posture, reading music, chords and some of the most important scales such as major, minor, pentatonics, and modes. I strive to take students to a point where, if they apply what they've learned, they can become self-learners.
