Does Your Son or Daughter Want to Learn How to Play That Guitar??! Try out my Guitar Clinic for Beginners!
What should your son or daughter expect?
I will begin with exploring the instrument and soon jump right into forming notes and reading music. I will follow the Hal Leonard Guitar Method which begins with learning notes on individual strings all through the first position. Chords are eventually introduced. I also make use of strength-building techniques and scales.
What responsibilities do the students have?
Students will be expected to practice regularly. In my experience, learning an instrument requires a regular practice routine. Learning the guitar, especially, will require students to do many repetitions of practice exercises and songs to build strength and fluency. Without a regular practice routine, students will not be able to move on through the course.
Students will be expected to arrive ready to learn! I will be working with a group of students at one time, so there will be many times when I am walking around from student to student. It will be important for students to be able to focus on the learning and to practice whatever skill we are working on so that everyone moves forward.

What materials will students need?
Each student will need a copy of the Hal Leonard Guitar Method book 1. I will try to get multiple copies and will be happy to pass them on at cost. Students will also need a reliable instrument (an instrument that is in working condition). Students can play acoustics or electrics, whichever they prefer.
This is an eight-week course. What happens after the eight weeks?
At the close of the first guitar session (I call Guitar 1), I will continue the course (cleverly named "Guitar 2") which will essentially go through the next eight weeks. A third guitar course will also be offered. I also offer private lessons, so if your son or daughter is committed, I can work with the individually. If you know someone who is interested in starting with guitar one, but did not join by April 26, I may open an additional Guitar 1 clinic depending on number of people interested.
